The program, The New Trademark Law and the LV/Molly Tea Case: How Firestorms Influence Trademark Legislation and Enforcement in China, takes place Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET / 10:00 AM PT. The 90-minute live webinar includes live Q&A and is eligible in most states for 1.5 CLE credits. Read more and register here.

Why this program

China adopted its revised Trademark Law in June 2026, effective January 1, 2027. The reforms mark a policy shift: tighter restrictions on bad-faith filings backed by real penalties, a shortened opposition window, and materially higher expectations around evidence of use.

What is less understood is how the law got there. During the legislative process, disputes over misleading use of registered marks drew intense public attention and escalated into a nationwide firestorm — pressure that pushed lawmakers to add severe punishment provisions and accelerate the timeline. Shortly after publication, the LV/Molly Tea decision set off a second wave of public debate, this time over the outer edge of trademark enforcement itself.

For U.S. brand owners manufacturing, sourcing, advertising, or selling into China, both stories now matter. The panel will work through the key amendments, what they change in practice, and how legal strategy and business strategy have to move together in a market where public reaction can shape both the law and its enforcement.

Who should attend

In-house IP counsel, brand protection and anti-counterfeiting teams, and outside practitioners advising companies that operate in China or are considering entering the market.
