Eligon Partner Amy Hsiao Selected as a Member of the Expert Think-Tank at the Beijing AMR

February 4, 2022

Eligon IP is proud to announce that partner Amy Hsiao has been selected as an expert by the Beijing Administration of Market Regulations (“AMR”).  In 2021, the AMR of Chao-Yang district started a project called “International Exchange Platform of Intellectual Property”; one of the goals of this project is to set up a “think-tank” of experts to serve thousands of thriving companies in the district for anything related to intellectual property: the advice can be as small as how to file a trademark in Brazil, to mega cross-border licensing discussions, or even IP disputes and litigations while Chinese companies buy and sell businesses around the world.

This expert group will visit companies and host regular meetings. Various practitioners, including outstanding experts in IP litigation and unfair competition have been selected for the group; among them, Amy is the only US-licensed attorney who has made the list. The final selected expert group is published in the AMR’s WeChat platform, as shown below.

Amy shares her thoughts on her favorite district in Beijing:

“There are eight districts in the central area of Beijing. Some are very political; others are very commercial. For example, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) is located in the Xi Cheng district, the same district where the central government is located. My favorite district is 朝阳 (Chao-Yang)  — this is the district where most international companies and all embassies around the world reside; dubbed as the most “international” district in Beijing, Chao-Yang is also known as the “CBD”. Fun fact, the abbreviation of CBD – in China – has nothing to do with the cannabidiol industry; rather, it stands for “Central Business District”.  Put simply, Chao-Yang to China is similar to Manhattan in New York: center for businesses.”

Chad King, partner at Eligon IP, commented,

“We are so proud of Amy and her practice. This latest accolade is one of many Amy has received, resulting from her deep knowledge of both US and Chinese law. What these accolades cannot show, however, is Amy’s unwavering commitment to her clients, which has produced an amazingly loyal client base. Amy has proven to be a fantastic asset for our team.”

 Congrats Amy!
